Thank you for your attention to detail, it
makes our operations run that much more smoothly. The response to each of your concerns is given below.
#12. The oil stains can occur on any given day, depending on how the customers unload materials. Our employees are trained to
survey these areas throughout the day and to clean up spills such as you observed in a timely fashion. This area was cleaned
immediately after your visit and employees have been reminded to clean up oil stains as soon as they are identified. Please
refer to the attached photos and record of training.
#21. The used oil tank was closed immediately after your inspection. Employees have been reminded to keep this and all
hazardous materials and hazardous waste tanks secure when not in use. Please refer to the attached photos and record of
training.
#75 Used fluorescent light tubes are stored in vendor -supplied cardboard boxes to prevent breakage and to conform to storage
requirements. Another 4' box is on order to accommodate future used fluorescent lamps of this length. Please refer to the
attached photos.
#91 The blue 55 -gallon drum you observed contained fresh hydraulic oil. Even though it was drained virtually dry, it was not
hazardous waste, just an empty hazardous material drum. An empty label with the date emptied was affixed after your
inspection. Employees have been trained to label hazardous materials containers greater than 5 gallons with an "empty" label
and the date it was emptied. Please refer to the attached photos and record of training.
Note 1. Sims Metal, Stockton Division acknowledges that the current rate of waste generation qualifies the yard as a large quantity
generator.
