00MA CITY OF STOCKTON
DEPARTMENT OF MUNICIPAL UTILITIES
2500 NAVY DRIVE
STOCKTON. CA 95206-1 191
[2091944-6750
FAX(209)944-6706
July 23, 1992
Derrel Houdashelt
Environmental Safety Officer
University of the Pacific
3601 Pacific Avenue
Stockton, CA 95211
DISPOSAL OF OUTDATED PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOUNDS
This is in response to the letter dated July 13, 1992, from Ms. Carole Willard of your office
requesting disposal information for the School's outdated pharmaceutical compounds.
This material is hazardous waste, and, as such, is not compatible with our wastewater treatment
plant. Therefore, I must advise you that we cannot grant permission for the University to utilize
the City sanitary sewer system for this purpose.
Our Environmental Control Section made numerous telephone inquiries on your behalf in an
attempt to assist in your effort to dispose of this material. Regrettably, we were unable to
locate an acceptable disposal source for this type of waste through our contacts. We request that
you let us know the method you find to legally dispose of the material. This information will
allow us to appropriately direct other facilities that face similar difficulties in the future.
Thank you for bringing this problem to our attention. I am sorry that we could not be of more
help to you. Please direct your inquiries and questions to the Environmental Control Section
at (209) 944-8735.
MORRIS L.
