To fully characterize the chromium content in your metal fines sample you'll need to have the lab test by Title (T) 22
California Code of Regulations (CCR) section 66261.24(x)(1). This section describes the required Toxic Characteristic
Leaching Procedure (TCLP)test. This section is attached to this email.
Your results so far found 920 mg/kg chromium by the Total Threshold Limit Concentration (TTLC)test (T22 CCR
66261.24(a)(2)). Since 920 mg/kg was found the TCLP (above) and the Soluble Threshold Limit Concentration (STLC)
tests must be done to demonstrate if the waste exceeds the California and Federal hazardous waste limits or not. The
lab found 0.17 mg/kg by the STLC test which is below the California 5 mg/kg hazardous waste limit.
The TCLP needs to be run to see if the waste exceeds the federal limit for hazardous waste. The TCLP and STLC are
different test procedures and can produce different results, therefore both tests need to be run.
If the final TCLP test demonstrates the waste to not be hazardous waste then my department will inactivate the County
hazardous waste generator permit. Be aware that when your metal fines change in composition (you change the metal
you are using)they may become hazardous waste and you'll need to dispose of them as hazardous waste.
Thank you,
Garrett Backus,Ld.
