A MEMO... FROM THE TECHNICAL DEPARTMENTATNEWARK WERR4
TO: DEPARTMENT HEADS
TOUR BOSSES
DATE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, 1995
FROM; A.HURD
COPY: M.FARRELL, M.VINCENT, M.ROGGE
RE: HAZARDOUS WASTE INSPECTION... A PLEASANT SURPRISE
This morning we given a surprise inspection by R. McClennon of the Public Health Services
Department of San Joaquin County. His inspection included the Hazardous Waste Storage Area,
a tour of the mill, and all our records.
Mr. McClennon was satisfied that we are handling our wastes correctly. This is a tribute to
everyone here, especially the basement clean-up crew who also take care of the Hazardous Waste
Storage Area.
There were two things we need to correct:
• The eye wash stations must be kept clean and free of garbage. Mr. McClennon noted that
the station in the coater kitchen, next to the ammonia tanks, had tools in the basin. Please
communicate to your crews that this is not acceptable in this or any other eye wash.
• Once a waste oil drum is emptied by RAMOS Environmental, the Hazardous Waste Label
must always be crossed out, removed, or painted over. This is normally done, unfortunately,
one "bad apple" was found in the drum storage area.
Like our inspection last month with Alex Baillie from the city, this inspection went well. Please
continue your efforts in these areas. Thanks to everyone for a job well done!
Alec
