Newark Sierra Paperboard Corp. NEWARK
800 West Church Street A Newark Group,Inc.Company GROUP
Stockton,CA 95203 Products from Recycled Fibers
209/466-5251
Fax 209/942-1214
i
L
February 22, 1995
,o Gl
San Joaquin County Department of Public Health
Environmental Health Division
P.O.Box 3888 t
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Attn: Ms. L.T.Briggs
Dear Ms. Briggs,
As you know from our phone conversation last Friday (2/17/95) there was a spill of
approximately 40 gallons of diesel fuel in our yard. The spill occurred when a delivery truck's
diesel fuel tank sprung a leak after accidentally running over a rail spur. The driver, realizing his
mistake, immediately pulled onto a paved area and summoned our help. We responded by
containing the spill with absorbent and by calling the Office of Emergency Services, who told us
to call your department. After consulting with you and Mr. Harlan Knowles, we decided to call in
Ramos Environmental and have them handle the clean-up.
Bonzi Inc. (who owns the truck that caused the spill) took responsibility for the occurrence and
will be the waste generator. A Hazardous Waste Manifest, with their EPA number, has not yet
been made-up. The four waste drums (55-gallons) are currently in our H/W storage area,
awaiting pick-up by Ramos Environmental. A copy of the H/W Manifest will be sent to you once
the pick-up is made. Information on the generator is attached for your files.
Thanks to your department's help, the cooperation of Bonzi, and Ramos's fast response this spill
was handled with a minimum of problems. If you have any questions, please give me a call here at
the mill: 466-5251.
Sincerely,
14----
Alec rd
Technical Manager
AAH/aah
cc.
