You state that "Battery and generator
vendors are required to clean up spills and dispose of spill supplies if a spill occurs when changing batteries,
maintaining generators, or refueling storage tanks." Usually spills of these types will generate hazardous waste.
When hazardous waste from spills is generated at the 3807 Coronado Ave address the waste must be packaged
as hazardous waste at the site of the spill. Usually waste is placed in a 55 gallon container. The container must
be labeled as hazardous waste and removed from the site by a registered hazardous waste transporter within the
appropriate time limits, usually within 180 days of waste generation.
Contractors cannot haul hazardous waste without being a registered hazardous waste transporter and filling out a
manifest. HSC 25250.12, which is quoted in your letter, applies to used oil only.
When the hazardous waste is removed from the site a hazardous waste manifest must be filled out. The manifest
must include the EPA number for the site address where the waste was generated. These requirements are the
same for all contractors or Sprint employees working at the site.
Will Sprint obtain a temporary EPA number every time hazardous waste is generated at the site by contractors
and Sprint employees? Is every Sprint contractor a registered hazardous waste transporter? Please clarify the
section of your letter quoted above.
Thank you,
12/16/2010
