This procedure applies to all personnel who generate and/or handle UW at LLNL.
LLNL manages all UW at the Livermore Site (Site 200) and has notified DTSC that
electronics, CRTs, and CRT glass are received from Site 300 and other offsite infrastructure
facilities at the Site 200 location. This notification was done via DTSC's online notification
system (see Figure 1).
LLNL's UW procedure guides generators of electronic waste (UWEDs) and CRTs to:
• Accumulate UWEDs and CRTs in a manner that prevents their damage or
breakage. These items can be accumulated in containers, shrink-wrapped to a
pallet, stored in a barricaded -demarked accumulation area, or placed in a room.
They may not be placed in scrap metal hoppers.
• Containers used for UWEDs and CRTs must prevent leakage or damage that could
be reasonably foreseen.
• The containers, pallet, accumulation area, and room, must also meet the UW
labeling requirements.
• Make sure that containers have lids or are placed in a covered area.
In addition to the LLNL UW procedure, the Site 300 Manager's Office distributed a
memorandum on the management of excess materials at Site 300 last February to remind
