• Washing with commercial industrial cleaners (such as 909, B.N., Blue Gold, and <br />Mirachem 500 cleaners), <br />• Surface cleaning with acidic solutions, and <br />• Dl -water and tap water rinsing. <br />The waste stream consists of wastewaters that contain particles and dissolved metals. <br />The wastewater is treated through a process that includes a series of tank treatment <br />processes before discharging into a POTW. The treatment process includes chromium <br />reduction, neutralization, coagulation, and flocculation and sand filtration. This process <br />is authorized by California Tiered Permitting program. One of the treatment units was <br />closed in late 2010, since the building that housed it was slated for demolition. CWC 132 PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAM FOR TANK FARM AQUEOUS SOLUTION <br />TREATMENT PROCESS <br />Aqueous solutions generated from various LLNL operations, such as debris washing, <br />sample preparation and analysis, and equipment maintenance and cleanout were <br />consolidated at the Building (B) 695 tank farm for treatment. The treatment used <br />involved addition of appropriate treatment chemicals followed by filtration using a rotary <br />drum to separate solids from liquids. The liquid portion of the waste was tested to make <br />sure it met the discharge limits before discharging to the sanitary sewer. The solids were <br />sent offsite for disposal. <br />SOURCE REDUCTION/POLLUTION <br />Description of Measure: <br />The volume of waste received into the tank farm for processing is dependent on the <br />volume of programmatic wastes generated. As such, there are no direct opportunities for <br />reducing the volume received.
