Metal
parts are cleaned through a multi step process including the following: Ultrasonic
degreasing; washing with commercial industrial cleaners (such as 909,); Surface cleaning
with alkaline solutions, and DI -water and tap water rinsing. The waste stream consists of
spent solutions that must be changed periodically to maintain effectiveness. This waste
stream is currently collected and shipped to offsite treatment and disposal. Sometimes
this waste stream is more caustic and is then coded CWC 121. In 2010 the process
generated a waste stream that was less caustic and therefore coded as CWC 135.
SOURCE REDUCTION/POLLUTION PREVENTION EVALUATION
Description ofMeasure:
No new source reduction measures are being considered at this time.
3.3 Buildine 963 Sumn Wastewater
Site2010 uantit Ib
SNUCA 16,033
Raw Materials:
Din, Oil, Grease, and
City Water
powerwashittg
CWC 135
ofequipment
Unspecified
Off-site
aqueous
disposal
solutions
FIGURE 111.3.3. FLOW DIAGRAM
FOR BUILDING 963 SUMP WASTEWATER
The Maintenance Engineering Department power -washes various types of equipment at
the B963 wash down pad as pail of routine maintenance. The types of equipment that are
power -washed include landscaping equipment, heavy equipment and the trash truck.
This activity generates wastewater that is contaminated with oil, dirt and grease.
Currently this waste is collected in the oil and water separator located at the B963 wash
down pad and disposed of as a non-RCRA hazardous waste, The waste is normally
pumped out once a year.
SOURCE REDUCTION/POLLUTION PREVENTION EVALUATION
Description of Measure:
None identified. Workers try to minimize the frequency of power washing equipment
and minimize the volume of water used. These actions over time will reduce the
volume of waste generated.
September 1, 2011 SB 14 Plan 22 September 1, 2011 SB 14 Plan
