CQUalex
Date: April 27, 1999
To: Qualex HSE Coordinators
From: Michael Stark, Corporate HSE Specialist
Subject: Analysis of Processor Filters
We recently submitted spent film and paper processor filters to be analyzed by certified
labs in two different locations to ensure that the filters were not classifiable as hazardous
wastes and therefore not disposable as solid waste.
The federal Toxic Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP)was performed on used C-
41 film processing fixer fitters and used RA 100 paper processing bleach-fix filters from
our plants in Washington State and Connecticut. All tests produced leachable silver
concentrations of less than 5 mg/L, which is the concentration at which the material
would be regulated as a hazardous waste.
The Chehalis, WA plant results also show the analysis performed on a treatment system
TMT filter, which also showed leachable silver at less than 5mg/L.
Please file this data so that it may be made available to interested parties.
