Job Title: Chemical Mixing Technician <br /> Employee: Andrew Golaway <br /> Job Description: Prepare working-strength chemical solutionsfrom concentrates. <br /> Control and monitor the silver recovery waste water treatment systems, harvest silver and <br /> prepare silver for shipment. Operate monitoring and sampling equipment to ensure <br /> appropriate performance of system. <br /> Skills needed for this job are: Ability to master chemical concepts necessary to perform <br /> duties in a safe manner, including chemical hazards, chemical compatibility properties, <br /> and appropriate handling, storage and disposal techniques. Ability to understand and <br /> operate the waste water treatment system, including diagnosing and correcting problems. <br /> Need ability to lift 60 pounds, ability to become fork lift certified, basic math aptitude, <br /> ability to differentiate color codes used on chemical containers, ability to read labels, <br /> ability to communicate problems to maintenance by way of writing work orders. <br /> Chemicals involved with the job and their hazards: <br /> Chemical Hazard <br /> Acids: acetic and sulfuric, C41 Developer Corrosive chemicals: may cause burns if <br /> parts B & C, C41 Bleach Regenerator, RA accidental dermal contact occurs <br /> -Developer part B RA Bleach Fix part C <br /> Bases: sodium&Potassium hydroxide, Corrosive chemicals: may cause burns if <br /> C41 Developer part A, RA Developer part accidental dermal contact occurs <br /> A <br /> Silver in processing solutions Regulated as an acute aquatic toxicant in <br /> concentrations over 5 m <br /> Color developers Contact dermatitis may occur as a result of <br /> repeated dermal exposure <br /> Initial Training (including OJT): Three to four weeks <br /> EMUS label system: Hand out,lecture, and quiz, half-hour <br /> Handling Corrosives: Video and quiz, half-hour <br /> PPE: video and quiz, half-hour <br /> Hazard Communication for Chemical Workers: video and quiz, 45 minutes <br /> Use of pH meter: video and quiz, half-hour <br /> Emergency Action Plan, Spill Plan, and Evacuations Procedures: lecture and <br /> quiz,45 minutes.
