This safety standard establishes a contingency plan in the event of a fire,explosion,or any unplanned release of <br /> hazardous waste or hazardous constituent into the air,soil or surface water which would possibly endanger the health <br /> of employees and/or surrounding environment. This plan will outline specific areas where spills are likely to occur <br /> and the amounts of these chemicals that could be involved. The procedures include the methods for clean-up, <br /> equipment needed to clean up,safety equipment needed to protect the clean-up crew and location of spill control <br /> center(s)where the safety equipment is located. <br /> B. This safety standard pertains to all personnel in the work areas outlined. These individuals will be trained in the <br /> emergency procedures of the contingency plan and will learn the proper clean-up procedures for spills that could occur <br /> in their work areas,and to notify the facilities' emergency coordinators. <br /> IL Policy <br /> A. This plan will describe the actions the facility personnel must take in response to fire,explosions,or any unplanned <br /> sudden or non-sudden release of hazardous waste,chemicals,gas, fuel oil or hazardous waste constituents to air, soil <br /> or surface water at the facility. <br /> B. All personnel should become familiar,through training,with procedures and equipment described in this contingency <br /> plan. In the event of a fire, explosion or any unplanned release of hazardous waste or hazardous constituents into the <br /> air,soil or surface water at the facility, facility personnel shall immediately notify emergency coordinators. <br /> M. Purpose <br /> A. Each individual is responsible for his/her safety,as well as the safety of those individuals who could be affected by any <br /> hazard that may occur. The order of events after the discovery of an emergency should include above all "The safety <br /> and well-being of personnel in the immediate vicinity"and secondly,the control of the chemicals being discharged <br /> (see section X,paragraph B of this plan). <br /> IV.
