The sewage treatmlat'plant will be notified immediately if the spill w,e'or threatens to become a release or <br /> cause a violation of the wastewater ordinance. Releases of hazardous materials into the environment will <br /> be reported to the appropriate agencies as detailed below. <br /> 3. Obtain and use the proper PPE and equipment to control the spill.Primary intent is to prevent the release of the <br /> spilled chemicals into the environment and to prevent personal injury. <br /> 4. De-energize equipment that may be affected by spill if needed. <br /> 5. Tum off any valves that may slow or stop spill if needed. <br /> 6. Neutralize the spill if needed. Perform repairs and clean up spill. <br /> 7. Disposition of materials: <br /> The H. S.E.Coordinator will determine disposal methods for the recovered chemicals and spill control <br /> materials.Recovered silver-bearing solutions will be treated in the TMT system before discharging to the sewer. <br /> High or low pH will be neutralized before discharge.Non-silver-bearing solutions will be characterized and <br /> disposed of according to the procedures appropriate to the chemical contamination characterization.All <br /> chemicals that may not be neutralized and disposed by discharging through the sewer will be stored in properly <br /> labeled(CFR 49 markings)container used for cleaning up the spill in the hazard waste storage area(silver <br /> storage area).Arrangements will be made,within 30 days of accumulation,for proper disposal at the correct <br /> hazardous waste facility. <br /> 8. Supervisor or Lead of the area where the spill occurred will immediately fill out a spill incident report. A <br /> copy of this completed form should be given to human resources,the QA Manager,QC Supervisor and <br /> Plant Manager. <br /> 9. hl case of a large spill of a hazardous substance the QA Manager should be informed immediately. <br /> Contact Richard Orr at Ext.263. <br /> E. If a truck arrives with a leaking container, follow these instructions: <br /> 1. For non-Kodak shipments of hazardous chemicals: <br /> a. Refuse the shipment and instruct them to get off the site unless doing so would further endanger <br /> the environment. <br /> b. Notify the EPT. <br /> C. Immediately isolate area as needed and protect any drain in the area only if possible without <br /> coming in contact with spill. <br /> d. Document the name of the driver and license plate number. <br /> e. The EPT will: <br /> -Ensure safety of all personnel and evacuate area as needed using bill of laden and MSDS as <br /> guides.-If driver refuses to leave the site or it's not prudent for him to leave,contact the shipper <br /> and let them know that their truck is involved in a spill. If they do not have a contract with a <br /> clean up company then instruct them that we will call our contractor and bill them. -Call our <br /> spill contractor. Ramos Environmental Services 1-800-456-7745 or 1-800-64613598.Contain <br /> the spill using supplies from the spill cabinet. -Wait for the contractor. <br /> 2. For Kodak shipments of hazardous chemicals: <br /> a. Notify EPT,isolate area,and protect any drain in the area. <br /> b. The EPT will: <br /> -Evaluate the health hazard,check the MSDS. If the spill is beyond the scope of the EPT notify <br /> Kodak and notify our contractor. <br /> -If leakage is in the truck only,have drivers position the truck so that it will drain into a barrel. <br /> -If leakage is noticed once cargo is in warehouse,contain the spill and protect the drain using articles <br /> in the spill cabinet. <br /> -Refer to Spill Control Plan and proceed with mediation of the spill. <br /> 3. For transporting chemicals between labs: <br /> a. Not advisable unless no other choice. <br /> b. Driver must have EM-I 26F training. <br /> c. Vehicle used must have a working fire extinguisher. <br /> d. Driver must be supplied with MSDS of the chemical and the MSDS must be kept with the driver and <br /> not the cargo. <br /> e. If carrying a mixed load make sure they are compatible. <br /> £ Amount transported must be legal amount not requiring placards. <br /> Enwgaicy Action Plan 9 <br /> 1/8/98 <br />
