Therefore, PHS/EHD has made the appropriate notification to
the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB). A copy is
enclosed for your information.
The six existing wells at the site must be properly destroyed prior to the issuance of a
formal closure letter. PHSIEHD and the TRC recommend the following well
destruction methods:
Monitoring wells MW#1 through MW#4 should be excavated to at least three
feet below grade. Monitoring well MW#5 should be excavated to at least five
feet below grade as this area is to be graded for a future street widening
project.
As monitoring well MW#6 is in a public right-of-way, the San Joaquin County
Public Works Department should be contacted for any permitting requirements
and to determine any preference for the final grade level finish at this well site.
All wells except for monitoring well MW#4 should be pressure grouted with a
neat cement grout so that the grout mixture infiltrates through the sand pack
area of the well. The cement grout should be applied to the well until it pours
over the top of the sheared casing to form a "cap". After the cement has set,
the excavation may be backfilled with soil.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
