Box 2009 • (1601 East Hazelton Avenue) •Stolon, California 95201
(209) 468-3400
SCOTT VINCENT i
AMERICAN REAL ESTATE GROUP
3102 OAK LAWN STE 900 i JUL 1 V1199
DALLAS TX 75219 I .
 RE: 1235 E. Alpine SITE CODE: 1512 I ,,-
Stockton, CA ipk
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division has reviewed the Quarterly Monitoring Report dated May
1992, submitted by Woodward-Clyde Consultants: and has the
following comments.
As noted in a letter from this office to American Real Estate
Group dated November 12, 1991, the stockpiledisoil may be used to
backfill the open tank excavation, with the understanding that
the soil is to be remediated in-situ along with the contaminated
soils in the deeper zone in that area.
Because the soluble lead was extracted with an acidic solution,
the levels of soluble lead, as noted in the quarterly report, may
not be indicative of actual site specif is"' soluble lead levels. A
' repeat analysis for soluble lead can be accomplished during the
f drilling and sampling of the proposed vapor extraction well, in
the center of the former tank pit area.
To better simulate site conditions, the soluble leadshould be
extracted with a deionized water solution'. Using deionized water
to extract the soluble lead will better represent site
conditions, should yield lower soluble lead results and may
indicate that the total lead levels remaining, in place are not a
threat to groundwater. The results of the water sampling of the
three monitoring wells at this site indicate ,that groundwater has
not been impacted, to date, by lead. it
ilil
A workplan to install the proposed additional monitoring wells
and the vapor extraction well can be included in the next
quarterly status report as suggested by Jay K`amine of Woodward-
Clyde Consultants in a telephone conversation with this office on
June 25, 1992. Work addressing the contimincition documented in
the former piping trenches may also be included in the workplan.
Any necessary access agreements, permit appllpcation(s) and
associated fees should be submitted along with the workplan.
E
A Division of San Joaquin County Heai[h Care Se>gices
