FIELD REPORT <br /> SITE REMEDIAL WORK <br /> 1 <br /> On Monday, September 14, 1992, the TreaTek-CRA Company (TreaTek) mobilized the crew <br />' and equipment required to complete Task 1 as outlined in the proposed work plan for the Major i <br /> Mart site in Stockton, California Activities conducted at this time for Task 1 included <br /> demolishing and disposal of the canopy, locating, and capping fuel pipelines (to within one foot <br />' of the building foundation), capping and disposal of remaining fuel pipelines, and sample <br /> collection from the pipeline routes, the tank excavation, and the soil stockpile for analysis of <br /> Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPH-G), Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and <br />' Xylene (BTEX) and Total Lead. <br /> Initial site activities included a safety meeting, locating utilities and reviewing scheduled <br />' activities The florescent light ballasts were removed from the light fixtures in the canopy and <br /> placed into a drum which was left onsite The canopy was then dismantled and the frame was <br /> cut into pieces The canopy pieces were hauled offsite to a scrap metal recycler <br />' Fuel line removal on began September 15 at the southeast corner of the tank excavation All <br /> g P <br /> of the removed pipelines appeared to be in good condition with no visible signs of leakage The <br />' two exposed lines were followed south across the west end of the two former fuel dispenser <br /> islands closest to West Lane, then toward the southern most fuel dispenser island nearest to <br /> Alpine Avenue The fuel lines ended approximately fifteen feet from the south island and had <br /> tape over the ends During the course of excavating the above described two pipelines, four <br /> additional (older) fuel lines were discovered and removed All the fuel lines, with the exception <br /> of approximately forty feet uncovered after the recycler had left, were cut and hauled offsite to <br />' a scrap metal recycler. The remaining forty feet of pipe is stockpiled onsite <br />' Soil samples were collected where the pipeline branched off to connect to the former fuel <br /> dispenser islands along West Lane, at the pipeline's 45° connection, at the end closest to the <br /> south fuel dispenser island and below the northern most fuel dispenser island located along West <br />' Lane for a total of five soil samples from along the fuel dispenser pipeline route (see <br /> Figure C-1) Field jar head space readings of the soil samples below the pipelines were taken <br /> utilizing a Foxboro 128 Organic Vapor Analyzer (OVA) The soil below the northern island <br />' along West Lane (PL-5) presented the only indication of volatile organics below the removed <br /> fuel pipelines <br />' All of the samples collected from beneath the removed fuel dispenser pipeline were collected <br /> from the backhoe bucket The backhoe was used to retrieve the soils from the locations shown <br /> on Figure C-1. A sample was then collected from the soils within the backhoe bucket by hand <br />' <br /> driving two laboratory cleansed stainless steel tubes into the soil after first removing the <br /> uppermost six inches of soil One tube was sealed, labeled and stored on ice for holding for <br /> analysis while the second tube was utilized for OVA jar head space readings.
