I
• 2.0 SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION
2.1 Pre-Field Activities
Prior to conducting any of the field activities described in the Work Plan dated April 18, 1994,
SEACOR performed the following tasks A site-specific Health and Safety Plan was prepared as
required by 29 CFR 1910 120, for the protection of SEACOR staff A copy of the Health and
Safety Plan was included as Appendix A to the approved Work Plan A subsurface utility
clearance was also performed at those locations where drilling activities would be conducted
' Finally, permits to drill the proposed borings were obtained from the PHS/EHD, prior to the
installation of borings by the subcontractor, West Hazmat Drilling Corp (No 554979 C57)
2.2 Summary of Unsaturated Zone Soils and Former Tank Pit Area Investigation
In accordance with the approved Work Plan and Addendum SEACOR installed two soil borings
(S13-1 and S13-2) to depths of approximately 81 5 feet and 80 0 feet below ground surface (bgs),
respectively The purpose of these borings was to assess the possible presence of residual
petroleum hydrocarbons in the unsaturated zone below the former tank pit backfill and above the
sandy zone of saturation As a result of applying field screening protocols, 7 samples were
I collected and analyzed from boring SB-1 As specified in the Work Plans, collected samples were
analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon(as gasoline) [TPHg], benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
I total xylenes [BTEX], volatile and semivolatile organic compounds [VOCs and SVOCs] A
maximum of 3 samples were collected from boring S13-2 and analyzed for the same suite of
analytes
Detections of BTEX compounds ranging from 7 to 45 ug/Kg were found in boring S13-1 samples
to depth of approximately 56 feet bgs Trace detections of 1,2 Dichloroethane (1,2 DCA) were
found at depths of approximately 46 and 66 feet bgs No other VOCs or SVOCs were detected
in boring SBA samples No BTEX, TPHg, VOCs or SVOCs were detected in samples collected
from boring S13-2 The following Table 1 summarizes the laboratory analytical results for the soil
SEACOR°
N0026-001 01 ROF 2 August t 1994
