Facilities like yours which generates less than 100
kilograms(220 pounds)of hazardous waste per month can store up to 220 pounds of hazardous waste
indefinitely.
Once 220 pounds (approximately half a 55 gallon drum of waste oil)have been accumulated at the facility, an
accumulation clock starts. At that time, the accumulation start date should be placed on the drum labels. Within
180 days of the start date, the oil needs to hauled offsite by a hazardous waste hauler, or otherwise disposed of
as hazardous waste.
If more than 220 pounds of hazardous waste have been stored at your facility since April 10, 2009 then the facility
is in violation of accumulation time limits and the waste oil should be disposed of as hazardous waste as soon as
possible. Otherwise, you can correct the date on the waste oil labels to indicate when the 220 pound threshold of
hazardous waste was reached.
Please respond to this email to indicate your action. I am attaching a guidance document with accumulation time
information.
Thank you.
Garrett Backus
Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
600 E Main Street,Stockton CA 95202-3029
telephone:(209)468-2986
fax: (209)468-3433
email:gbackus@sjcehd.com
8/13/2010
