Volume calculation: The waste antifreeze tank is located indoors in a
containment area of 13.3' x 16' x .5' which gives a gross containment volume of
795 gallons. However some of the containment is occupied by other tanks. This
loss of containment volume is less than 250 gallons. Thus the net containment
volume is 545 gallons. The waste antifreeze tank is the only tank which requires
this containment. All the other tanks have integral secondary containment. The
working volume of the waste antifreeze tank is 190 gallons. The percentage
containment of this tank is 287 percent. The waste antifreeze transfer line and
the waste antifreeze line volume is less than three gallons. Therefore the
containment provided is sufficient for the present use.
Design of containment area:
The containment area is at grade and is provided by a concrete floor and walls
with a bermed doorway. The tank is within a petroleum storage room which has a
bermed doorway to prevent any spill from line failure or transfer operations from
leaving the immediate area. The transfer piping is welded copper which is
inspected daily during business hours. The piping is indoors, above ground and
over a sealed concrete floor. The tank has an overfill alarm sensor set at 90% of
the tank volume. These points are alarmed by a visual and audible alarm in the
garage. The containment area is monitored several times per day by the garage
staff.
Site Security: The transfer lines and tank are indoors and access is locked during
non-business hours. The dealership is regularly patrolled by the Tracy Police
Department.
Secondary Containment findings; The secondary containment syste s of
sufficient capacity and condition for the containment of releases from all nks
and ancillary equipment.
