Safety DepartmentGAF Materials Corporation Document #: Modified by JS Plant: Stockton 12/12/2013 Date: 12/12/2013 Author: Juan Sosa Page: I of I Title: Aerosol Can Disposal System RECEIVE® AEROSOL CAN DISPOSAL SYSTEM SOP Warning ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT • Do not use Aerosol on a drum which has less than 20 gallon capacity • Ensure combination filter is installed and in good condition prior to using system • Ensure that anti-static wire is properly "grounded" on drum • Wear plant required PPE and face shield while operating aerosol system • Always engage sliding cover plate against can being punctured • After removing punctured can, lower sliding cover plate to cover aerosol housing • Remove aerosol to an empty drum once collection drum is at 70% full capacity (contents reach 10" from the top) Safety • Do not use aerosol while smoking or near open flame, always operate aerosol system outdoors or in a well-ventilated area • Wear appropriate plant PPE and face shield when operating aerosol system Operational Directions 1. Ensure that aerosol is securely threaded onto 2" bung opening until ground support foot sets firmly on drum lip. 2. Ensure that combination filter is securely threaded directly onto 3/4" bung opening. 3. Attach anti-static wire to aerosol unit and to nearby ground source. 4. Remove cover cap from aerosol can and remove spray nozzle tip from can. Before placing aerosol can into aerosol housing check for obstructions and ensure there is nothing blocking the housing to prevent backflow. Insert can upside down into aerosol housing and slide aerosol cover plate down to engage firmly against inverted bottom of can, then turn knob to lock in place. 5. Push handle down firmly until completely depressed and hold in place while can releases initial pressure and contents. Allow the contents of the can to drain into collection drum (about 20 seconds). 6. Raise cover plate and recycle can into appropriate disposal drum.
