In addition to <br /> the protective equipment specified for Level D, Level C also includes the following: <br /> • NIOSH-approved half- or full-face air-purifying respirator (APR) equipped with <br /> filter cartridges as specified in Section 10.0. Note: safety glasses are not required <br /> when wearing a full-face APR. <br /> • chemical-resistant clothing (e.g., Tyvek, polycoated Tyvek, or Saranex coveralls) <br /> when contact with chemically affected soils or groundwater is anticipated <br /> • outer nitrile gloves and inner nitrile surgical gloves when direct contact with <br /> chemically affected soils or groundwater is anticipated (nitrile surgical gloves may <br /> be used for collecting or classifying samples as long as they are removed and <br /> disposed of immediately after each sampling event) <br /> safety shoes/boots with protective overboots or knee-high PVC polyblend boots <br /> when direct contact with chemically affected soils is anticipated <br /> Respirators will be stored in clean containers (i.e., self-sealing bag) when not in use. <br /> Respirator cartridges will be replaced in accordance with the following change-out <br /> schedule. <br /> Type of Cartridge Cartridge Change-out Schedule <br /> Particulate (i.e., HEPA) At least weekly or whenever the employee detects an increase in <br /> breathing resistance. This will occur as the filter becomes loaded <br /> with particulate matter. <br /> Sorbent(i.e., organic At the end of each day's use or whenever the employee detects <br /> vapor) an abnormal odor or other indicator. <br /> Personnel who wear air-purifying respirators will be trained in their use and must have <br /> successfully passed a qualitative respiratory fit test in accordance with and 8 CCR 5144 <br /> within the last 12 months. <br /> Page 16 KMEP-Stockton-HASPvLdoc LFR <br />
