Box 2009
Stockton, California 95201
Attention: Ms. Laurie Cottula
PIEZOMETER INSTALLATION PERMIT
PORT OF STOCKTON
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
Dear Ms. Cottula:
Woodward-Clyde Consultants (WCC) has been retained to assist the
Stockton Port District by conducting an investigation of groundwater
elevations in the petroleum tank terminal area at the Port of Stockton.
This letter is submitted at the request of Ms. Laurie Cottula (San Joaquin
Local Health District) in support of the piezometer installation permit
application.
Our investigation involves the installation of thirty--two piezometers to
monitor fluctuations in groundwater elevation and determine local
groundwater flow directions. Piezometer installation specifications and the
monitoring procedures are discussed below. A site plan and piezometer
construction diagram are included as Figures 1 and 2. '
Thirty-two piezometers will be installed in an array surrounding the tank
terminal area (Figure 1) at the Port of Stockton. Installation specifications
and monitoring procedures for the piezometers will be as follows:
° The piezometers will be constructed of 1-inch diameter Schedule
80 PVC pipe and installed to a depth of about 10 feet. The
screened interval will be 5 feet in length and a 5-foot length of
blank casing will extend from the screen to the ground surface
(Figure 2) .
° The piezometers will be installed with assistance from a licensed
(C-57) drilling company (Kvilhaug Drilling of Concord,
California). A fence post driver will be used to install the
piezometers to total depths of about 10 feet. The natural soil
materials will provide the filter pack; additional backfill material
should not be necessary.
Consulting Engineers.Geologists
and Environmental Scientists AWA_
in Other Principal Cites _
