Texas 77001
ENVIROME" TAI. HFA LTH
F ERIYU i
Distribution Facility
Drive, Rough & Ready Island
California
Reference is made to your letter dated February 2.4, 1986, wherein you
requested data for the Health District files. Normally, replies to such
requests would be handled by Shell's Western Distribution Area office at
Anaheim. However, we plan to gather additional initial data; hence, my
correspondence directly to your department.
Twelve groundwater monitoring wells were installed at the captioned
plant to investigate existing groundwater conditions and provide a means
of monitoring the groundwater for possible future hydrocarbon releases.
The well logs reported hydrocarbon odors in wells No. 8, 10 and 11, but
no floating hydrocarbons were found.
The water table elevations were plotted on the attached map, which shows
the water table gradient flow to the south rather than north as
originally anticipated. To adequately investigate the site condition
and provide an acceptable monitoring network, permits are requested for
seven additional wells as located on the water table maps. Five are to
further monitor the plant site facilities and two will monitor the un-
devaloped property to the north.
During the drilling soil grab samples of formation changes will be taken
and banded, hydrocarbon odors recorded and soil descriptions logged. We
do not anticipate encountering any floating hydrocarbons, but if we do,
we will review all available data and submit a proposed plan of action.
[0 IIiFi%illf.llljl
