PPE Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times when handling hazardous waste. <br />• PPE may include any of the following depending on what type of material the store <br />is working with: <br />o Gloves, heavy duty or light duty latex <br />o Shoe coverings or boots. <br />o Respirator <br />o Face shield <br />o Apron or paper gown <br />• Have the spill kit available, just in case it is needed. <br />• For large spills, or especially difficult clean up, call the <br />Environmental Helpline @ 1-888-368-7327 for a Hazmat crew. <br />• Spills greater than one gallon may be considered large, with the exception of paint, <br />stains, or similar less harmful products. <br />Spill Kit Spill clean up and PPE supplies must be readily available at all times. <br />• Complete spill kits, as well as replacement items for the kits, can be ordered <br />through Bunzl. <br />• Spill kit contents should include: <br />o Vinyl Gloves (1 box) <br />o Kevlar and, Green Nitrile Gloves (1 pr. each) <br />o Absorbent (6 cartons) <br />o Hazmat Socks (8 socks) <br />o Hazmat Absorbent Pads (24 each) <br />o Safety Goggles (1 pr.) <br />o PVC Apron (4 each) <br />o Brush and Dustpan (1 set) <br />Note: Adjust quantities as needed by location <br />Waste Pick • Hazardous waste must be picked up within 6 months of the accumulation date. <br />Up / Supply Hazardous Waste will be on a scheduled pick up. For out of cycle pick ups, contact <br />Resources Dawn Jess at djessl@searshc.com. <br />• Universal waste must be picked up within 12 months of the accumulation date. <br />Universal waste containers for alkaline batteries, fluorescent tubes, and CFLs may <br />be ordered through MDS at: carey@mdsrecycles.com or (714) 505-6100. <br />• A cardboard box container for waste cell phones, rechargeable batteries, and sealed <br />lead acid batteries under 2 lbs is provided by RBRC (877) 723-1297. <br />Note: HazWaste materials may not be sent to the CRC.
