' Job No 4780201 • • 4
t 4.0 WELL INSTALLATION PROTOCOL
' 4.1 Well Drilling Protocol
' Monitoring Well Installation Permit No. 012320 was issued for the
installation of well MW-1 by the SJCEHD on April 28, 1997 (see copy of
' permit in Appendix A). The well was drilled and installed by Spectrum
Exploration, Inc. of Stockton, California (C-57 Lic. #512268) on August 1,
' 1997, using a mobile drill rig equipped with 8-inch diameter, hollow-stem
' augers. All augers, drill rods, subs, and collars were thoroughly steam-cleaned
before drilling operations commenced. All equipment decontamination rinsate
t was contained and stored on-site in labeled 55-gallon drums, approved for such
use by the State of California Department of Transportation.
' In order to develop a profile of soil type and soil impact, soil samples were
' obtained during drilling operations at five-foot depth intervals beginning at a
depth of 10 feet. Soil samples collected from the following intervals were
' retained for chemical analyses purposes: MW1-15', MW1-20', MW1-25',
MW1-30', and MW1-40'. Soil samples were collected from the boring using a
' California modified, split-spoon sampler equipped with two-inch diameter brass
sample tubes. Upon retrieval from the sampler, the ends of the sample tubes
' containing soil collected for laboratory analyses were covered with Teflon
sheets, sealed with plastic caps, and stored on ice in a cooler.
' Soils encountered during drilling operations were logged continuously by
examination of the soil cuttings and soil contained within the brass sampling
' tubes. This information is noted on the boring log presented as Figure 3. A
discussion of soil types encountered is presented in Subsection 2.2 of this
' report. Groundwater was first encountered within Boring MW-1 at an
approximate depth of 39 feet. There was a noticeable hydrocarbon odor in the
' soil encountered at all depths in Boring MW-1 .
' EzC, Inc. September 18, 1997
