The four proposed soil borings will be located 30 to 90 feet
from the former 2,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tank(UST) area, and completed to 40 feet below
ground surface. Soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPHg),total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd),benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylenes (BTEX),
and fuel oxygenates and additives including MtBE and 1,2-dichloroethane.
The soil and groundwater assessment workplan is approved with the following revisions:
1. We reviewed groundwater monitoring reports for two UST sites within one-half mile of your site, and
identified that the depth to water is approximately 34 feet and the dominant groundwater flow direction is to
the southeast. Therefore, we believe that instead of four push probe borings, two push probe borings would
be adequate. The push probe locations should be adjusted as shown on Attachment A to be closer to the
former 2,000-gallon UST area.
2. Starting at 10 feet below ground surface, collect soil samples from the two push probe borings every five feet
or at changes in lithology to first encountered groundwater. Collect a groundwater grab sample from the two
push probe boring locations at the completion of the boring. Analyze soil and groundwater samples for
TPHg,TPHg, BTEX, and fuel oxygenates and additives. Ethanol and methanol analysis are not required.
3. Purge and sample the existing on-site monitoring well, and analyze the water sample for constituents listed
above.
hi the future, only one copy of workplans and drawings are required to be submitted. If you have any questions
or comments,please c Il®255-3115.
Marty Haftell,R.G.
Associate Engineering Geologist
cc: Mr.Mark Owens, SWRCB Cleanup Fund, Sacramento
Ms. Margaret Lagorio, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division, Stockton
California Environmental Protection Agency
0%Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
