This investigation is not being performed in
association with the UST clean-up fund.
THE PROJECT
We understand that the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (SJCEHD) has requested that the USPS delineate the extent of documented
contamination at the site and investigate the areas previously not "properly" addressed
during the underground storage tank (UST) removals. In addition, the SJCEHD has
requested submittal of a closure plan for the underground piping associated with the
motor oil and waste oil USTs that was left in-place beneath the VMF.
SCOPE OF WORK
We will perform the following scope of work to further evaluate subsurface conditions
beneath the four former USTs, diesel fuel dispenser, and associated conveyance piping.
Pre-Field Activities
Prior to beginning work, a drilling permit application will be submitted to the appropriate
regulatory agency for their approval. We also will contact Underground Service Alert
(USA) to attempt to locate public underground utilities in the area of our exploratory
borings.
Subsurface Exploration of UST and Fuel Island Areas
Our field engineer or scientist will direct a subsurface exploratory program, supervise, log,
and sample five exploratory borings to further evaluate soil quality beneath the four USTs,
diesel fuel dispenser, and dispenser conveyance piping. Four of the borings will be
located approximately 9 feet from the former UST excavation and will be advanced at an
angle of approximately 30° from vertical to collect samples from beneath the concrete
anchor slabs of the USTs. The borings will be advanced to a vertical depth of
approximately 27 feet. The remaining boring will be located approximately 6 feet from the
1785 Locust Street, Suite 10 Pasadena, CA 91106-1614 Tel: 626.396.1490 Fox: 626.396.1491 E-mail: mail@lowney.com http://www.lowney.com
l
U h_ —
