Metal fines generated from the welding area and the facility maintenance shop are being disposed of <br /> in the trash without first determining particle size or hazardous properties. Any person who generates a <br /> waste shall determine if the waste is a hazardous waste. Immediately stop disposing metal fines in the <br /> trash, make a hazardous waste determination for the metal fines, and manage it according to Title 22 <br /> hazardous waste regulations. Particles 100 microns or smaller must be handled as hazardous waste if <br /> the metal is determined to be a hazardous waste. Submit a statement and supporting documentation <br /> explaining how this waste was managed by 7-29-11. Class II Repeat Violation. <br /> Note: Engineer states that only aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel are worked on here. We also <br /> observed other metals that appeared to be brass or copper in color. <br /> 7. A variety of chemical and product waste has been accumulated in the hazardous waste storage area <br /> without first determining hazardous properties. Any person who generates a waste shall determine if the <br /> waste is a hazardous waste. Immediately make a hazardous waste determination for the variety of <br /> chemical and product waste, and manage it according the Title 22 hazardous waste regulations. Submit <br /> a statement and supporting documentation explaining how this waste was managed by 7-29-11. <br /> Class II Repeat Violation. <br /> Note: Engineer states that this waste is awaiting disposition. <br /> 11. The cardboard bailer, trash compactor, CUDA parts washer, and fork lifts have leaked oil on <br /> locations where they are stored. There are some oily debris and dark oil stains near the cardboard <br /> bailer, trash compactor, CUDA parts washer, forklifts, oil storage rack, and other equipment. Some of <br /> the oily debris appears to be contaminated absorbent that has not yet been cleaned up. Facilities shall <br /> be maintained and operated to minimize the possibility of a fire, explosion, or release of hazardous <br /> waste to air, soil, or surface water which could threaten human health or the environment. Immediately <br /> clean up any spilled oil, oily debris, dark oil stains, and contaminated absorbent, and manage according <br /> to Title 22 hazardous waste regulations. Submit a statement and supporting documentation explaining <br /> how this waste was managed by 7-29-11. Class II Repeat Violation. <br /> 15. The secondary containment spill control equipment of the oil storage rack at the fork lift shop has <br /> some waste oil in it. The secondary containment spill control equipment of the 55 gallon drum of <br /> Is almost full of liquid.
