Lead-acid Batteries — Handle as a "universal waste" stream and recycle using Heritage. <br /> Collect all spent/used lead-acid batteries and place in appropriate container (usually a 1 to 5 <br /> gallon pail depending-upon generation rate) and label accordingly (Refer to labeling section of <br /> the.Heritage Waste Handling Manual available online on Heritage website). Unless allowed <br /> and directed by Heritage, do not mix with other battery types. All batteries should be collected <br /> separately and segregated according to battery type and then labeled. If agreements exist with <br /> vendors that allow exchanges of spent batteries for fresh batteries, that would be an acceptable <br /> practice (make sure to log all transactions of vendor picking up spent batteries and replacing <br /> with fresh batteries. Universal Waste streams can be stored on site for a period of up to one ' <br /> year before disposal via recycling. Universal waste streams do not count towards waste <br /> generator status (i.e. CESQG, SQG, or LQG), if on a separate bill and not on a Hazardous <br /> Waste Manifest form, especially in California. Contact your CEM or your Heritage Customer <br /> .Service Representative for further guidance and assistance. <br /> 16. Alkaline.Batteries —Handle as a"universal waste" stream and recycle using Heritage. If bulbs break during handling, follow procedure for dealing with broken <br /> fluorescent bulbs/HID lamps.
