The material must be identified. <br /> b. The employee cleaning up the spill has been trained on the hazards of the material. <br /> c. Hazards are similar to normal working conditions. <br /> d. Outside resources are not needed to remove the material. <br /> e. Employees are not at risk. <br /> f. The environment is not at risk. <br /> g. The facility is not at risk. <br /> h. The spill can be cleaned up with normal personal protective equipment(PPE). <br /> A more detailed definition of points a)through h)are attached to this SOP <br /> 3.2 Emergency Spill:An Emergency spill is one where any of the above conditions are not met,or: <br /> a) Releases involving more than one chemical. <br /> b) Releases where chemical reactions are observed. Such reactions may include smoke, heat <br /> generation,vapor cloud,etc. <br /> c) Small spills where employees experience signs/symptoms of exposure such as dizziness,headache, <br /> or nausea. <br /> d) Natural gas leaks or natural gas line ruptures. <br /> e) Propane releases from the outside storage tanks or unattached lift truck LP tanks. <br /> f) Uncontrolled propane leaks from lift truck fuel systems. This includes ruptured fuel lines. If <br /> tightening the cylinder connection can control the leak,an emergency would not be declared. <br /> g) Uncontrolled compressed gas leaks such as acetylene or oxygen.
