STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE <br /> Procedure#: 20-4.21-WI-001 Title: <br /> Issue#5 7bmpW 1arW <br /> Issue Date: 8121149 Emergency Response to In- <br /> Supersedes Date: 8124106 Plant Fire <br /> 1.0 Purpose <br /> The purpose of this procedure is to ensure the safety of all Inland Tracy personnel and property. <br /> 2.0 References <br /> T-I Safety Management System Manual,Chapter 14. <br /> IQP 4.21 Procedure 0401,4.3.7,Emergency Action Team <br /> 3.0 Definitions <br /> Confinable Fire-Any fire that can be controlled with no more than two portable fire <br /> extinguishers. <br /> 4.0 Responsibility <br /> The Shift Supervisor is responsible for notifying emergency services. <br /> The Shift Supervisor is the employee in charge of the fire response or evacuation. <br /> Any employee discovering a fire is responsible for first sounding the alarm and then attempting to <br /> control a confinable fire. <br /> 5.0 Safety <br /> All safety rules,regulations and procedures will be observed while carrying out the activities <br /> associated with this procedure. <br /> 6.0 Procedure <br /> 6.1 Upon discovering any fire in the plant,the discovering employee will sound the alarm by <br /> notifying his Supervisor and nearby employees. <br /> 6.2 The discovering employee(s)will shut down any sources of fuel,air,energy,or source of <br /> ignition that would sustain or spread the fire.Examples:Turn off scrap blowers,close the <br /> valve to leaking flammable chemicals,shut down electrical supply,shut down a conveyor <br /> carrying paper to site,etc. <br /> 6.3 Consistent with their training,the discovering employee will attempt to control the fire with <br /> portable fire control equipment. Some conditions that indicate the fire is beyond our training <br /> are: <br /> Smoke <br /> Choking,coughing or gasping <br /> Tears <br /> Two empty bottles of extinguishing agent. <br /> 6.4 Where the conditions exceed the definition of a confinable fire,the Supervisor will notify <br /> emergency services and if needed,initiate evacuation.(See Evacuation SOPs) <br /> 6.5 All employees will upon hearing the evacuation alarm will follow their local SOP for <br /> emergency evacuation. <br /> 6.6 Any incident that results in the discharge of a fire extinguisher requires Incident Investigation <br /> and Reporting. <br /> 6.7 Before returning to normal operations in any incident of fire,the cause of the fire must be <br /> identified and controlled.A fire watch must be established and maintained for a minimum of <br /> Issued By: James Dacayanan Authorized By:Carol Skelly Page loft <br />
