ROGERS JOSEPH O'DON•LL •
www.rjo.tom
Michelle Henry
July 3, 2012
Page 3
6. Training (Violation #703, 810, 811)
Walgreen's employees with hazardous waste responsibilities have been trained
and have completed a program of online power point training at store level. This proprietary
and confidential training program provides the employees with specific information about
hazardous waste characterization and handling, including use of spill kits, as well as a step
by step explanation of how to perform these obligations. Directives and enhanced hazardous
waste training programs have been issued to all California stores to ensure that employees
are thoroughly familiar with waste handling and emergency procedures relevant to their
responsibility during normal operations and during emergencies. We had previously
submitted a copy of certain of Walgreen's program materials to the San Joaquin District
Attorney, David Irey, and the State Coordinating District Attorney, Matt MacLear, to show
that all stores are operating under consistent and compliant procedures, and request that they
be maintained as "Confidential and Proprietary Business Information and Trade Secrets"
pursuant to Civil Code §3426.1 et seq., Health and Safety Code §25173, 22 CCR 66260.2
and Gov. Code §11183. Employees were specifically trained on Walgreen's policy
regarding leaking containers, identifying incompatible waste, characterizing waste, and
universal waste. Three managers-in-training at this Walgreen location have completed the
enhanced hazardous waste training program. The concerns raised in the Report were
addressed, and Walgreen store #10482 is in compliance.
Walgreen has worked diligently to ensure that each store fully complies with
all applicable hazardous waste laws and continually seeks ways to build on these efforts.
Very truly yours,
Walter S. Chen
WSC:wsc
Enclosure
318210.1
A Professional Law Corporacion
