Metal fines generated from the maintenance shop are being recycled as scrap metal without first <br /> determining particle size or hazardous properties.Any person who generates a waste shall determine <br /> if the waste is hazardous waste. Immediately stop recycling metal fines, make a hazardous waste <br /> determination for the metal fines,and manage it according to the Title 22 hazardous waste <br /> regulations. Particles 100 microns or smaller must be handled as hazardous waste if the metal is <br /> determined to be a hazardous waste. Submit a statement and supporting documentation explaining <br /> how this waste was managed by 2-6-12. <br /> Part 2: <br /> 108. Used sand blast media has been left on the maintenance shop floor.Any person who generates a <br /> waste shall determine if the waste is a hazardous waste. Clean up the spilled sand blast media, make a <br /> hazardous waste determination,and manage it according to the Title 22 hazardous waste regulations. <br /> Submit a statement and supporting documentation explaining how this waste was managed by 2-6- <br /> 12. <br /> Part 1: <br /> Metal fines& grinding wheels: <br /> Since 1-5-2012, metal fines generated from the grinding units have been cleaned and grindings stored in <br /> a contained drum with labeling in accordance to hazardous waste regulations. <br /> Lab test results from GeoAnalytical Laboratories, INC have been used to determine that metal grindings <br /> from the identified equipment produces metal fines that are less than 100 micrometers in size. <br /> Metal grindings from the grinding equipment in the maintenance shop will be managed in accordance to <br /> Title 22 of the hazardous waste regulations. <br /> Part 2: <br /> Used sand blast media: <br /> Since 1-5-2012, sand blast media generated from the sand blasting unit has been cleaned and spent <br /> material/blasted material has been stored in a contained drum with proper labeling. <br /> Lab test results from GeoAnalytical Laboratories, INC have been used to determine that media from the <br /> identified equipment produces fines that are less than 100 micrometers in size. <br /> All used sand blast media along with the blasted material will be managed in accordance to Title 22 of <br /> the hazardous waste regulations. <br />
