Those methods not found
in SW 846, are specifically noted below. Refer to the "SWRCB LUFF Field Manuai", Appendix A-20, Table 3-5 for
detection limits of motor vehicle fuels (gasoline and diesel). Refer to 1-2-3 "Regional Board Staff Recommendations for
Initial Evaluation and Investigation of USTs' for the waste and motor oil detection limits.
Detection Limits that remain below the MCI, STLC or Allowable Limit of the contaminant In question will be accepted,
however laboratory shall utilize the most conservative method.
LABORATORY ANALYSFS TERMINOLOGY:
TNI-0 Total Petroleum Ilydrocarbon, Gasoline, OpFID (5030) 8015 mod or GC/MS 8260
TPII-D Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon, Diesel, GC/FID (3550), 8015 mod or GC/MS 8260
BTX dr E Benzene, Toluene, Xylene h Ethyl Benzene, OCRID 8020 of OCIMS 8260
CL HC Chlorinated Hydrocarbon, OCAISD 8010, OC/MS 8240
TOTAL LEAD Total lead, AA 7420, AA 7421 or ICP-AFS 6010
EDB Ethylene dibromide (DI IS-AB 1803), OC/MS 8240 (DI IS-LUFL)
OC-FID Gas Chromatography, Flame Ionization Defection
ICAP or AA Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry 6010 or Atomic Absorption
Spectrometry 7000. Fused capillary columns are
preferred to packed columns; a packed column may be used as a 'first cut' with 'dirty" samples or once life hydrocarbons
have been characterized and proper QA/AC is followed.
For Drinking water sources, EPA recommends that the 500 series for volatile organics be used in preference to the 600
series because the detection limits are lower and the QA/QC is better. Samples exhibiting any level of heavy metal
contamination may require further analysis. PIIS-EIiD recommends holding these samples until disposal Is Indicated.
Ell 23 048 (Revised 7/10/92) Page 8
