• Heat exhaustion occurring from increased stress on various body organs <br />including inadequate blood circulation due to cardiovascular insufficiency or <br />dehydration. Signs and symptoms include: pale, cook. moist skin, heavy <br />sweating, dizziness, nausea, fainting. <br />• Pale, cool, moist skin, heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, fainting. <br />Heat stroke is the most serious form of heat stress. Temperature regulation fails and the body <br />temperature rises to critical levels. Immediate action must be taken to cool the body before <br />serious injury or death occurs. Competent medical help must be obtained immediately. Sign <br />and symptoms of heat stroke are: <br />• Red, hot, usually dry skin <br />• Lack of or reduced perspiration <br />• Nausea <br />• Dizziness and confusion <br />• Strong, rapid pulse <br />• Coma. <br />3.13.7 Cold Stress Symptoms and Prevention <br />Symptoms of cold stress include shivering, numbness, low body temperature, drowsiness, and <br />weakness common sense will dictate the appropriate amount of clothing to wear. When the <br />air temperature is below 45T, workers shall take extra precautions including thermal <br />underwear, heavy socks and gloves, knit caps and layered clothing. Workers observed <br />shivering shall immediately be taken to a warmer location and the SSHO notified. <br />Additionally, all personnel will follow the guidelines of ITC Procedure 9533.2 Cold Stress. <br />3.14 Logs, Reports, and Documentation <br />All IT and subcontractor field personnel who have potential for exposure to hazardous <br />materials shall attend training session in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.120 prior to working <br />on site. Training that is conducted shall be documented on the appropriate forms and <br />forwarded to the IT Training Department to be placed in the employee's file.
