Configuration and Programming
For proper operation and maximum protection, the monitoring unit must be programmed using the
parameters listed in the maintenance manual.
A key-locked cover restricts access to some Veedor-Root controls. This key is unique for each unit and
must be safeguarded to prevent loss. Users do not leave the key in the operating unit.
5.2.2 Operation
The monitoring unit is operated continuously to check for leaks.
5.3 Monitoring
5.3.1 Local Control
Site personnel check the monitoring unit daily at manned facilities and once per site visit at unmanned
facilities. Personnel ensure that
1. Adequate inventory is available for site operation, and
2. No unexplained inventory losses have occurred.
Inventory and leak detection records must be maintained for a period of three years. Monthly site
inventory test records are sent to the Building Management Center(BMC) or entered directly into the
BMC's interactive web page. Site personnel must provide either a copy of the printout from the
monitoring system or take a reading from the LED on the unit no less than once a month.
5.3.2 Remote Control
The Building Management Center, through the Building Automation System (BAS), records all tank
inventory test recordings on a daily basis. Sites with BAS are not required to forward records from the
facility as those recordings have been captured and documented through the BAS. Sites without BAS
that are manually inspected must submit the monthly tank monitoring reports to EH&S by the 15`s of
each month. Monthly tank inspection records can be faxed to 913-315-0624 or e-mailed to
fueltank.report@mail,sprint.com.
5.4 Leak Detection
When the monitoring unit detects a leak, personnel immediately notify Environmental Health and
Safety and the Building Management Center. The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) group
helps determine the extent of the leak, including environmental pathways affected, required corrective
action, and regulatory notification procedures. If a piping leak has been detected, personnel check the
sump first as described above in Section 5.1.
5.5 Maintenance
When site personnel observe the first sign of a malfunction, the monitoring unit must be serviced. This
work is contracted out to the original equipment manufacturer or his authorized/certified representative
as outlined in section 4.1 of this SNP.
8
Copyright(01999-2001 Sprint Corporation
The information in this document is proprietary.
