General <br /> 1.1 Purpose <br /> The purpose of this document is to establish procedures and guidelines for identifying and reporting hazardous conditions <br /> caused by the release of hazardous substances or waste into the environment. <br /> Hazardous substances are defined by the Clean Water Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response,Compensation <br /> and Liability Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act;and the Clean Air Act. Commonly used hazardous <br /> substances within Sprint include diesel fuel, sulfuric acid, lead, ethylene glycol(anti-freeze),refrigerants,and halon. <br /> These substances represent the greatest possibility for a potential release. However,this statement does not negate that <br /> other hazardous substances do exist in Sprint's day-to-day operations. <br /> 1-2 Scope <br /> This document defines an environmental hazardous condition and the process used by Sprint personnel to identify and <br /> report hazardous conditions caused by the accidental release of oil/fuel or other hazardous substances or waste into the <br /> environment. <br /> This document provides a method for activation and utilization of Sprint's National Service Contract Agreement for <br /> emergency response. <br /> Compliance with the procedures in this document is the responsibility of each Sprint organization that maintains, <br /> transports or stores any substance regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The following Iist <br /> represents common substances found in Sprint operations: <br /> • Oils and fuels <br /> • Sulfuric acid and lead(battery plants) <br /> • Halon <br /> • Polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs) found in older electrical transformers and fluorescent light ballasts <br /> • Ethylene Glycol(Anti-freeze) <br /> • Refrigerants(chlorofluorocarbons found in chiller and air conditioning units), <br /> • Warehouse,storage and cleaning materials(toxic chemicals) <br /> (Use a Material Safety Data Sheet[MSDS] to assist in determining chemicals,) <br /> 1.3 Reason For Reissue <br /> This practice has been revised to reflect an organizational name change. <br /> 2 <br /> Copyright C1999 Sprint Corporation <br /> The information in this document is proprietary.
