INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE OF WORK
In accordance with the request of Mr. Paul Bischofberger of Ad-Art Sign Corp., Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE)has prepared this report for the removal of two underground storage
tanks (USTs) from 3133 North Ad Art Road, Stockton, California. Soil samples were collected
beneath the USTs and product piping. The site location is illustrated on Figure 1 -Location Map.
Structures, former UST and sample locations are illustrated on Figure 2 -Site Plan.
L 2.0. BACKGROUND
The site is located in a commercial area of low topographic relief in Stockton,California,at the south
end of Ad Art Road, south of Cherokee Road and east of Highway 99. It is the understanding of
AGE that one 10,000-gallon gasoline, one diesel and one waste oil UST were installed at the site
` circa 1965. The gasoline UST was removed on 22 February 1989. Site closure was subsequently
granted for the gasoline UST and dispenser locations.
` Ground water currently occurs at a depth of approximately 55 feet below surface grade (bsg) with
a northeasterly flow direction in monitoring wells located approximately 1,000 feet northwest of the
subject property.
L
3.0. PROCEDURES
L
Field work was performed in accordance with Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
(CVRWQCB) and San Joaquin County Public Health Services - Environmental Health Division
(PHS-EHD) guidelines for the investigation of UST sites.
L
3.1. UST REMOVALS
L The UST removals were performed on 25 September 1998. Permits were obtained from the PHS-
EHD and the City of Stockton Fire Prevention Division(Appendix A). The USTs were uncovered
using a backhoe. Overburden soil was moved to the eastern portion of the site and stockpiled. Both
L USTs and their connecting piping were triple rinsed with a steam cleaner. The rinsate was removed
from the USTs by Nor Cal Oil, using a vacuum truck and was hauled to Industrial Service Oil
Company in Los Angeles, California for disposal/recycling. Approximately 175 pounds of dry ice
was added to the USTs(minimum of 30 pounds per 1,000 gallon capacity). The percent oxygen and
lower explosive limit(LEL)were measured in each UST prior to removal. All USTs were examined
L
Advanced GmEnvironmental,Inc.
V
