%W 1%/
Proposal No. P-3917
24 May 2000
Page 2
• Eleven 2 -point composite soil samples of the excavation stockpiles, and
• Seven soil samples beneath the product pipeline.
The analytical laboratory analyzed all samples for ethanol by EPA Method 8260. Ethanol
was not detected in any of the confirmation, stockpile, or grab -ground water samples.
Ethanol was detected in pipeline soil sample P-7 only at a concentration of 72,000
micrograms per kilogram (µg/Kg) or 72 parts per million.
San Joaquin County requested that additional soil and grab -ground water sampling be
conducted beneath the sample P-7 location under supervision of a California registered
geologist or engineer.
Scope of Work
To assess whether ethanol from the product pipeline has impacted soil and ground water in
the vicinity of sample P-7, ACG proposes to sample soil and ground water below the former
P-7 sample location using the GeoProbe process. Based on the UST removal results we
anticipate ground water will be encountered at a depth of 8 feet bgs.
Prior to fieldwork, ACG will obtain a soil -boring permit from San Joaquin County. ACG
and contact Underground Service Alert to address underground utilities in the vicinity of the
boring location.
ACG will collect two soil samples from between 3 feet bgs (depth of P-7 sample) and first
encountered ground water, and a grab -ground water sample after ground water is
encountered. An ACG professional will log the GeoProbe boring and collect soil/grab-
ground water sampling under supervision of a registered professional. An ACG will also
monitoring the breathing zone for the geoprobe crew and screen soil samples using a photo -
ionizing detector (PID).
The GeoProbe boring will be abandoned by filling the annular space with Portland cement
grout. ACG will coordinate with San Joaquin County to inspect grouting of the GeoProbe
boring.
Soil and grab -ground water samples will be stored and transported to the analytical
laboratory in a cooled ice -chest accompanied with a chain -of -custody document. The
analytical laboratory will analyze soil and grab -ground water samples for ethanol by EPA
Method 8260.
Project Schedule
ACG anticipates completing the field investigation two days after approval of this work plan
by San Joaquin County. ACG will complete the report within 2 weeks of receipt of
analytical laboratory reports.
s:\enviromentakurrentjobA4399 herozplant tank investi ation\4399 work plan.doc
,
ANDERSON CONSULTING GROUP
