All personnel performing fieldwork for this project are to read this plan and <br />sign it prior to beginning fieldwork. A copy will be made accessible during the field operations. <br />However, each organization is ultimately responsible for proper health and safety training for their <br />employees. <br />1) PROJECT NAME: <br />Site Assessment, former ethanol tank pipeline, Former Heinz Plant <br />2) PROJECT LOCATION: <br />757 East 11" Street, Tracy, California <br />3) SITE DESCRIPTION: <br />Former ethanol tank site near northeast corner of vinegar manufacturing building, former <br />Heinz manufacturing plant. Level topography. <br />4) PROJECT PERSONNEL: <br />Staff Geologist: <br />Project Geologist <br />Project Manager: <br />James Ackerman <br />James Ackerman <br />Dennis Nakamoto <br />5) REGULATORY OVERSIGHT AGENCY: <br />San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division. <br />6) PLANNED ONSITE ACTIVITIES: <br />Collect two soil samples and one grab -ground water sample below the former ethanol tank <br />piping using the geoprobe process. <br />7) POTENTIAL PHYSICAL HAZARDS: <br />Potential hazards <br />Actions to reduce hazards <br />Slip -trip -fall <br />Pay attention to debris and uneven topography. Remove debris and foreign <br />objects from work area. <br />Heavy Equipment <br />Maintain caution around geoprobe drill -rig and other heavy equipment that <br />may be onsite. <br />8) POTENTIAL CHEMICAL HAZARDS: <br />Contaminant Medium PEL's Actions for protection <br />Ethanol/Ethyl Soil/ground water? 1900 mg/m' or 1000 Level D: Gloves, boots, eye <br />Alcohol ppm NIOSH protection. Air will be monitored <br />with a photo -ionizing detector <br />(PID). Work will be suspended if <br />ethanol concentration in the <br />breathing zone exceeds 1000 ppm. <br />9) HAZARDOUS MATERIALS HANDLING PROCEDURES: <br />All workers in contact with soil and/or ground water from sampling activities will wear Level D <br />personal protective equipment (PPE) including boots, gloves, and eye protection.
