Two additional soil samples collected from the stockpiled fill and native soil were submitted
to a stationary laboratory to be analyzed for reactivity, corrosivity, and ignitability (RCI) to
facilitate soil disposal
4.5 Soil Sample Analytical Results
4.5.1 Excavation Verification Soil Sample Analytical Results
Soil samples collected from the excavation side walls and floor on November 16, 1994, were
analyzed by the onsite mobile laboratory, operated by Sparger Technology, Incorporated of
Sacramento, California Analysis of soil samples "wall 1" and "wall 2", collected from the
west wall and east wall, respectively, revealed no detectable petroleum hydrocarbon
concentrations Analysis of the soil samples "wall 3" and "soil floor", colIected from the
south wall and the excavation floor respectively, revealed no detectable volatile petroleum
hydrocarbon concentrations in either sample Diesel fuel however, was detected at
concentrations of 900 ppm and 740 ppm respectively. Analytical Reports are included in
Appendix B with soil sample results listed in Table 1
4.5.2 Stockpile and Roll Off Bin Soil Sample Analytical ytrcal Results
Composite soil samples collected from the soil stockpile and roll off bin on November 16,
1994, were analyzed by the onsite mobile laboratory, operated by Sparger Technology,
Incorporated Analysis of these soil samples ("soil pile 1" and "soil bin I") revealed no
detectable volatile petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations Diesel fuel was encountered at
concentrations of 120 ppm and 860 ppm, respectively
Two additional composite soil samples were collected (one from the soil stockpile "soil pile
2" and one from the roll off bin "soil bin 2") on November 16, 1994, which were analyzed by
McCampbell Analytical laboratory in Pacheco, California for RCI The samples were found
to be non-reactive, non-corrosive, and not ignitable Copies of analytical reports are included
in Appendix B Soil sample analytical results are listed in Table 1
4.6 Backfill
On November 18, 1994, the excavation was lined with filter fabric to prevent influx of fine-
grained material to the excavation Imported backfill consisting of 314 minus drain rock or
equivalent was "tailgated" into the excavation to approximately one foot below grade The
MZ/01-27-95/UST/95-0011 nbr 5
