04/01/1588
M E M O R A N D U M
TO: Laurie Cotulla
FROM: David Carls
SUBJECT: 909 W Hammer Lane - Exxon
Following is a brief site history for the 909 W Hammer Lane Exxon
Station.
1) (4) Single walled carbon steel tanks were installed in 1967 of the
fallowing capacities and uses.-
1 )
ses:1 ) 8000 gal . U. L.
2) 8000 gal . regular
3) 8000 gal . premium leaded
4) 550 gal . waste oil
::) Product line leak in November 1985 (no estimate on amount ) -
Static_n closed. Tanks removed, contaminated sails removed.
-'-
3) E. A. Engineering report (Vapor probe study conducted) indicates
that the sails are clean to 20 feet .
4) S. T. I . installed 5 monitoring wells on site (all have showed some
level of contamination at some time) recent water samples only show
contamination in M. W. 3 and M. W. 4 located at the former tank
excavation.
5) Groundwater is at 47 feet as of February 1988 though water level
has been as high as 52 feet .
6) Groundwater Gradient is to the Northeast
7) E. A. latest report (dated 3/23,188 suggests that since latest round
of sampling shows a dramatic drop-off in levels of contamination in
all the monitoring wells, the site be considered clean and no
future site work: will be necessary. Latest sampling still shows
benzene @ 300 ppb, toluene @ 270 ppb, ethyl benzene @ 13 ppb xylene
@ 260 ppb and TPH @ 2. 1 . ppb in M. W. 1 . M. W. 4 still shows slight
contamination (0. 2ppb TPH) as of the February 88 sampling.
Conclusion: Further sampling should be required since the State Action
level for benzene and toluene is still being exceeded and plume is not
yet defined.
