<br /> There were eleveen, discreet soil samples collected from the tank excavation stock piles.
<br /> They were logged as SP-1.1, SP-1.2, SP-1.3, SP-1.4, SP-1.5, SP-1.6, SP-1.6, SP-1.7,
<br /> SP-1.8, SP-2.1, SP-2.2 and SP-2.3. Due to Cal-OSHA safety regulations and the
<br /> instability of the pit walls,the excavation soil samples were obtained with a backhoe
<br /> (location of samples collected is given in Appendix Q.
<br /> These soil samples were collected on March 12, 1999, in the following manner. Each soil
<br /> sample was obtained by inserting a brass,two-inch diameter by six-inch long brass sleeve
<br /> �- into the soils. A soil slide hammer was used to insert the sleeves into the soil, each end
<br /> was wrapped with teflon, sealed with plastic end caps and wrapped with tape.
<br /> The samples were labeled, logged on a Chain of Custody form and transported on blue ice
<br /> to Acculabs Inc., (State of California, environmental laboratory, certification number
<br /> 2330),to perform the required analysis, (Chain of Custody form is presented in
<br /> Appendix Q.
<br /> Soil Analytical Results
<br /> Soil samples from the diesel tank excavation, and sock piles, were analyzed for Total
<br /> Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel and for Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene
<br /> (BTEX) by EPA methods 8020 and 8015M.
<br /> Excavation Soil Sample Results
<br /> The analytical results for tank pit sample, T-1-W(14'), taken from the west end of pit
<br /> bottom at an estimated depth of 14', detected non-detect as TPH-D (Total Petroleum
<br /> Hydrocarbons as Diesel), detected non-detect as Benzene, detected non-detect as Toluene,
<br /> detected non-detect as Ethylbenzene, detected non-detect as Xylenes.
<br /> The analytical results for tank pit sample, T-1-E (14'),taken from the east end of pit
<br /> bottom at an estimated depth of 14', detected non-detect as TPH-D (Total Petroleum
<br /> Hydrocarbons as Diesel), detected non-detect as Benzene, detected non-detect as Toluene,
<br /> detected non-detect as Ethylbenzene, detected non-detect as Xylenes.
