The work area should be 41 <br /> free from sources of ignition (see 1. 3 . 2) . <br /> Delete the first sentence of subsection 3 . 3 . 2 . 3 [formerly <br /> 4 . 2 . 3 ] and substitute the following: <br /> A tank may be inerted with an inert gas such as carbon <br /> dioxide (CO2) or nitrogen (N2) . <br /> In subsection 3 . 3 . 2 . 4 [formerly 4 . 2 . 4] , in the first sentence <br /> delete the phrase "the vapors in the tank may be displaced" and <br /> insert the phrase "a tank can be inerted" . <br /> In subsection 3 . 3 . 2 . 5 ( formerly 4 . 2 . 5) , in the first sentence <br /> delete the word "exhausted" and substute the word "purged" . <br /> Page 7 <br /> Delete the material in subsection 3 . 3 . 4 . 3 [formerly 4 . 4 . 3] and <br /> substitute the following: <br /> 3 . 3 . 4 . 3 [formerly 4 . 4 . 3] When an existing USTS is <br /> partially or totally removed, a small amount of <br /> contaminated backfill may be encountered. Backfill can be <br /> contaminated by minor spills and drips during previous <br /> operation of the facility or by minor spills and drips <br /> during removal of equipment, despite efforts to drain and <br /> pump product from the equipment before removal . If severe <br /> contamination has occurred, local environmental officials <br /> and/or fire officials should be notified. Local officials <br /> may require isolation and special handling and/or disposal <br /> of contaminated backfill materials (see API Publication <br /> 1628) . The implementing agency should be consulted about <br /> any requirements concerning notification, site assessment, <br /> or corrective action. <br /> Page 8 <br /> Insert a new "Section 3 . 4 Change of Service" and add the <br /> following material: <br /> 3 .4 . 1 Before a change of service, the UST must be emptied <br /> and cleaned. <br /> 3 . 4 . 2 Any new service should be compatible with the <br /> former service. The precautions described in sections <br /> 3 . 3 . 4 . 4 [formerly 4 . 4 . 4 ] and 3 . 3 . 4 . 5 [formerly 4 . 4 . 53 , <br /> above, should be observed. <br />
