Signs shall state"No Smoking" or"No Open Flames Fire/Explosion Prevention: 1 The contractor must have the appropriate fie extinguisher equipment on the job prior to excavation or removal of USTs. 2 No cutting torch, open flame,or spark producing equipment shall be used on the tank or piping at any time. Any source of ignition shall be at least 50 feet away from the excavation site 3. A properly calibrated combustible gas indicator and oxygen is required on the job site prior to excavation or removal. Calibration of the meter must be within the last three months 4. All tanks shall be checked for flammability and oxygen content, log the time and lower Explosive Limit (LEL) and oxygen content. 5. If at anytime during excavation, the lower explosive limit of the atmosphere around the tank exceeds 25 percent, all work will cease and proper mitigation procedures initiated.
