ARCO Petroleum F icts Company
515 South Flower Street
Mailing Address: Box 2679 - T.A.
Los Angeles, California 90051
Telephone 213 486 3511
March 21, 1988
Ms. Laurie Cotolla
Senior Supervisor
Local Health Department
County of San Joaquin
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Cotolla:
On October 1, 1987 the Atlantic Richfield Company via letter from
Mr. J. S. White, Manager Environmental and Regulatory Affairs,
advised the California Water Resources Control Board of an ongoing
project to verify the existence of Out of Service Waste Oil Tanks at
convenience food store outlets that dispense Gasoline. A copy of
that letter is attached for your information.
This letter advised the project was implemented to accomplish two
objectives: (1) Upon verification, we would notify the appropriate
State agencies that an Out of Service tank was present at the
facility location as required by Federal law, and (2) notify the
State that it is this Company's intention to remove such Out of
Service tanks as soon as feasible. We further advised that we would
report such information within the first quarter of 1988.
You will note on the attached that we have identified one or more
facilities within your regulatory jurisdiction where Out of Service
Waste Oil Tanks have been determined to exist at the location. We
are reporting them to you as required by Section 9002 of the
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) as amended.
Also, having determined the existence of these tanks through physical
verification on the premises, we are also advising you that it is
this company's objective to remove each of these Out of Service
Waste Oil Tanks as soon as permits and contractors can be obtained.
The removal process is to begin immediately with a target date for
completion of August 31, 1988.
ENV1Fi'`"EwTAL HEALTH
APPC 701 1
ARCO Petroleum Products Company is a Division of AtlanticRlchfieldCompany (4'80)
