• Aqua Terra Technologies
of 55 feet which was the ending depth of the PVC casing. The
drill rig was used to pull the well which was completed
successfully. The hollow stem auger served to keep the hole
open after the casing was removed. The hole was then grouted
to the top using a bentonite/cement slurry. A tremmie pipe
was lowered to the bottom of the hole. The grout was
injected into the hole through the tremmie pipe to displace
any water in the hole and to ensure that no voids were
created during the backfilling process. The closure of the
well was completed on the same day.
CONCLUSIONS
In our judgment, the site remediation has been completed, in
accordance with the requirements of the Regional Water
Quality Control Board and the San Joaquin County Local Health
District. Excavation of the concentrated hydrocarbon
contaminants to a non-detectable level by odor and
backfilling the excavation with fairly impermeable soil
should reduce any potential further migration of low levels
of contamination remaining in the soil at 24 feet and 29
feet.
In permanently closing the groundwater monitoring well, any
potential conduit formed by the sand and gravel pack used to
encase the well at the groundwater depth has been destroyed.
Consequently, any direct communication of the contamination
with groundwater has been eliminated.
