Hazelton Avenue Stockton, CA 95201 Project: Unocal Station #6981 4707 Pacific Avenue Stockton, CA Dear Mr. Knoll, We are under Contract to Unocal Corp. to install new piping and electrical modifications, at the above noted site, as part of their Blended Product project. After receiving a Permit from the Health District, we began con- struction. When the concrete was removed and the product and vapor recovery piping was exposed, we noticed several small leaks in the existing piping. Our office notified Unocal immediately, and we were instructed to, replace all the piping, after Permits were issued. On removal of the piping, we noticed the soil in certain areas appeared to be contaminated, with petroleum product. At this time, we are requesting a Permit to proceed with the pre- liminary investigation of these contaminated areas. We propose the following as a workable sequence,, if approved, by your office. I. Excavate the contaminated area, as noted above, to an elevation of no noticeable contamintion. 2. Excavated material to be picked up and stored on plastic sheeting, and covered with plastic sheeting, until soils tests are completed. 8. After removal, of contaminated soil, we will have Applied Geo Systems, take :oils samples at 20 lin. ft. intervals. The soil samples will be tak`n to an approved laboratory to have a Total PetroleutHydcocarbon analysis, EPA #8015, and a Benzene, Xylene, Toluene, EPA #8020 analysis run on each sample. 4. We will have a temporary chain link fence erected around the job site. In anticipation of a relativly small quanity of contaminated soil, Unocal has requested, us to apply for a second Permit. One covering,, the airation of any removed contaminated soil, until the contamination levels are within approved levels.
