SPECIFICATIONS <br /> 1.1 UNDERGROUND TANKS <br /> A. RESPONSIBILITY: <br /> I. The Contractor accepts full responsibility for proper handling and installation of the fiberglass <br /> reinforced plastic (FRP) or composite underground tanks and FRP piping, and shall ensure that <br /> good workmanship, practices and construction procedures are followed during the handling and <br /> installation of the tanks and piping. <br /> 2. The Contractor Is responsible for Inspecting the tanks for damage upon receipt at the Job site. <br /> Any visible damage Is to be noted on the delivery receipt. <br /> 3, The presence of the Chevron Repr on-site does not relieve the Contractor of the responsibility <br /> for proper lank handling, Installation and safety measures. <br /> FUEL DISPENSER. 66 OR 67 1.2 REMOVAL OF EXISTING TANKS AND PIPING SYSTEMS <br /> SEE@A. RESPONSIBILITY: Contractor will furnish permits, labor and proper equipment, except as noted, to <br /> F-6 remove existing tanks and lines per the following procedure: <br /> 1. Contractor, as part of the contract, will execute and comply with the Componys "Addendum <br /> Q Tank Disposal Certification Agreement". <br /> Q 2. All tanks and piping shall be removed and disposed of in accordance with the Addendum Tank <br /> Q Disposal Certification Agreement and applicable state and local regulations. Removal of tanks <br /> and Imes shall comply wlih API Hseem mend ed Practice 1604, Removal and Disposal of Used <br /> Underground Storage Tanks - December 1987 and March 1989 supplement. <br /> 3, Contractor shall comply with current NFPA and local regulations. <br /> U 4. Chevron Is responsible for removal of all reusable product from the tanks. Product will be <br /> 5 returned to terminal or other company facility. <br /> Q VR 8, REMOVAL PROCEDURE: <br /> REDUCE VAPOR TO 1. Excavate to the top of each tank. Care must be taken to prevent breaking product piping. Prior <br /> 2'0 LINE to slarting excavation, the contractor shall ensure power is shut off to any circuit, whose <br /> (TYP.) 20 Q conduit may cross the excavation. <br /> U RUN PRODUCT PIPING a. Suction System: Open check valve, pull poppet and drain product from line into tank. Do not <br /> 5 AND ELECTRICAL replace poppet. Reinstall cover on valve. <br /> Vp CONDUIT INTO r' b, Pressure System: "Break" pipe at union at remote pump. Orcin product Into tank or separate <br /> OPPOSITE SIDES OF U container. <br /> DISPENSERS (TYP.) 2. Avoid spills. product to drain into soil. Contractor may be held liable If soil <br /> 2"0 PRODUCT IN (SEE PIPING PLAN) contamination occurs duringtank and line removal. <br /> f 3"0 SEC. COIN. PIPE 18 19 3. Flush all product, vent and vapor return line back In lank or separate container(s). (Flushing in <br /> 3"0 V.R. Q S U separate containers can be dumped into product tanks for storage.) Flush each line with a <br /> minimum of 70 gallons o1 water. <br /> VR 4. Open all openings and flush inside of each tank with a minimum of 200 gallons of water using <br /> 2"0 PRODUCT IN REDUCE VAPOR TO high pressure spray equipment with wand to "wash dawn" the sides and bottom of the tank. <br /> 3"0 SEC. GON. PIPE 18 79 2'0 LINE 5. Chevron will arrange for a vacuum truck to collect all recovered product (liquid and sludge). <br /> (TYP.) 20 O Vacuum truck Is to return recovered" product to "slop" of Chevron facility or approved treating <br /> 5 U facility with approved oil/water separator system. <br /> 6. The tank must be free of flammable vapors prior to removal. Remove flammable vapors as <br /> P/V VALVE AS __-_ yR prescribed by the presiding fire deportment and tank manufacturers requirements. <br /> REQUIRED BY �I '0 PRODUCT IN 7. After tank venting, the vapor space sholl be tested by placing the combustible gas Indictor probe <br /> 2 <br /> LOCAL CODE Q Q into the fill opening with the drop lube removed. Reading should be taken at the bottom, middle <br /> 3"0 SEC. CON. PIPE 1B 19 and upper portions of the tank. The tank atmosphere must be 20% or less of the lower <br /> U flammable limit prior to removal. Refer to the probe manufacturer's instructions for testing In low <br /> 5 oxygen conditions. <br /> B. Prior to removal, all tank openings should be plugged. One plug should have a 1/8' vent hole to <br /> i F-4 6 Q Q VR prevent excessive pressure buildup.
