It is the intention of Jim Thorpe
Oil, Inc. to remove the two 500 gallon stoddard solvent tanks by first removing the block
wall and pump island to the north of the tanks. Next removing and disposing of the
asphalt cover from over the tanks and the debris from the wall and pump island. We will
then proceed to uncover the tanks, remove the contents and place it on plastic adjacent to
the excavation. Next we will remove the tanks, triple rinse and dispose of the rinsate and
tanks according to all pertinent rules and regulations. Soil samples will then be taken by a
representative of GeoAnalytical Laboratories(California Certification # 1157) of
Modesto, CA at the direction of John Bird of Henshaw Associates. Two soil samples will
be taken from the excavation, one from the excavated spoil and one from the tank
contents. Samples will be analyzed for TPH for Solvent, BTE&X and for Chlorinated
Hydrocarbons by test method 8260. The results will be forwarded to you at The City of
Lodi Public Works Department Water/Wastewater Division and to John Bird of Henshaw
Associates directly from the lab. The excavation will then be back filled with pea gravel
sufficient to displace the tanks and the excavated spoil. The tank contents, upon receipt of
confirming soil sample analyses, will be profiled to and disposed of at Forward, Inc.
Landfill, Manteca, CA.
Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc. will notify you and Henshaw Associates by telephone at least 72
hours prior to the planned excavation. If you have any questions regarding this project
please don't hesitate to call me.
Sincerely
Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc.
Richard Thorpe, President 4111
cc: John Bird
Jack Bowen
